How to Report Identity Theft

If you have suspicions that your identity may have been stolen, you should take these steps

STEP 1: Contact all three major credit bureaus Equifax, Experian and Transunion to advise that you think you are the victim of identity theft.
- You are entitled to a free credit report from each credit bureau if you are the victim of identity theft.

STEP 2: Contact local police department to file a report.

STEP 3: . Contact any financial institutions, utility companies and phone companies to advise that you think you have been the victim of identity theft.

 STEP 4: Contact Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at toll free number to enter your information into the fraud database. This is a free reporting system that may aide you in preventing further fraud.

STEP 5: Contact Social Security Administration to ensure that no recent unauthorized requests have been made of your information. Additionally, advise that you think you have been the victim of identity theft so that a flag may be placed on your account.
